Waves of Kindness is an augmented reality (AR) app created to foster acts of kindness within the George Brown College community. The app presents floating origami boats, each carrying a meaningful message. The boats' colours signify words of encouragement, calls for help, or challenges to inspire acts of kindness. Ideation
The Concept:The concept for Waves of Kindness draws inspiration from a 2005 study by Lyubomirsky, Sheldon, and Schkade, which found that performing five acts of kindness weekly—such as donating blood or writing a thank-you note—significantly boosted participants' happiness levels compared to those who did not engage in such acts.
Using Spark AR was invaluable for prototyping. The low barrier to entry allowed me to quickly turn an idea into an Instagram filter and test it in real time, enabling fast-paced iteration during the early stages. Given more time, I would expand the concept in Unity, gaining greater control over the environment and fully realizing my creative vision.
